From the first search to your case notes

A reading room.
With a little more reach.

For the solicitor preparing, the student learning and the curious reader making sense of a decision.

Search your way

Start with a keyword, legal principle or citation. Switch to party or judge search, then narrow your results by court.

Choose your level of detail

Get a brief overview, a detailed summary or a plain-English explanation. Read the AI summary alongside the judgment in split view.

Listen and read along

Turn a judgment into a spoken briefing. Follow the highlighted transcript, jump to a sentence or expand the player to focus.

Find the passages that matter

Search within the judgment, explore its map and key passages, and inspect extracted case citations and legislation.

Keep your place and your thinking

Bookmark paragraphs and make research notes in the reader. Copy paragraph citations when you need to refer back.

Carry the research forward

Export a Markdown case note and download your generated audio. Switch from readable text to the original PDF where available.

The brief, at your level

Less time finding your feet.
More time understanding.

01 / Brief

Get the essentials.

Start with a concise overview when you need to decide whether a case deserves a closer read.

02 / Detailed

Go a little deeper.

Explore a fuller account of the decision when you’re preparing research or working through the reasoning.

03 / Plain English

Make sense of the language.

Choose a more accessible explanation when unfamiliar legal wording gets in the way.

Keep the judgment in view. AI summaries are a starting point: check the reasoning and citations against the source.

Our sources & method
How do I get started?

Open case search and enter a keyword, citation, party or judge. Choose a result to open its judgment. The reader brings together the Brief, Map, Audio and Notes tools.

Do I need an account or an API key?

You can open the search page without signing in. Sign in for the limited hosted trial of AI summaries and audio; usage limits apply. For heavier use, you can add your own supported provider keys in Settings.

Can I choose the length and voice?

Yes. Choose brief or detailed audio, a target of 1, 2 or 5 minutes, and one of four voices. Actual running time can vary. Once generated, you can listen, read along and download the audio.

Does this replace reading the judgment?

Use summaries and audio to orient yourself, then check the judgment and its original source. AI output can contain errors and is not legal advice. The Counsel focuses on England & Wales; source coverage and availability vary.
